Seeds the Baker

Ingredients

450g (1 lb) strong whole-wheat flour
7g pack fast action dried yeast
1½ tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
225ml warm water
Poppy seeds for topping

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C/425°F/Gas Mark 7.
  2. Measure out all the ingredients.
  3. Into a bowl sieve the strong flour and salt.
  4. Stir in the sugar and the yeast.
  5. Add the warm water.
  6. Mix the ingredients together until they form a dough.
  7. Knead the dough for 10 minutes.
  8. Divide the dough into sections and shape into whatever shape you like.
  9. Sprinkle the poppy seeds on top. Press the seeds lightly into the dough if needed.
  10. Grease a baking tray and place the bread shapes on top.
  11. Leave enough space between each one because the dough will rise (get bigger).
  12. Cover the dough shapes with a clean damp cloth.
  13. Leave to rise for 30 minutes in a warm place. It should double in size!
  14. Bake for 10-15 minutes. Carefully take out of the oven when golden.
  15. Leave to cool then enjoy with Flora spread and jam!
