Tips for a successful campaign

We want your Cooking with Schools campaign to be as successful as it can be, so we've put together a list of ideas to get you going – and keep up the momentum as your campaign continues throughout the year. Why not give them a go?

  • Make the most of your free promotional material. Display the A2 poster and banner so that it's clearly visible to staff and parents, set up a collection point with the special label and use the template letters to let parents know about the campaign.
  • Hold a launch assembly or event. Get everyone excited and motivated about the campaign by holding a special assembly or cooking event in the school hall, involving as many classes as possible. Take a look at our assembly plan and presentation here.
  • Customise your campaign. Create posters displaying your school's emblem, wish list and target by using the online tools available. You can even personalise your school website or intranet.
  • Appoint a project leader to spread the word. This could be a parent or another member of staff.
  • Plan your project around the school events. Key dates like sports day, parents' evening and the school fete are a good way to give your campaign a real boost. You can set up stands, give out flyers and even sell delicious, healthy treats made from Cooking with Schools recipes.
  • Set a target. If everyone knows how many tokens you'd like to collect, everyone can work towards achieving the same goal.
  • Keep everyone up to date! Make parents, staff and your school aware of your progress in assemblies and newsletters.
  • Say thank you to pupils. You may like to say thank you to pupils for helping your school to put healthy eating at the heart of your classroom. Our downloadable pupil certificate on would be a perfect way to acknowledge their interest and involvement
  • Run cooking clubs, perhaps during break times or after school, to get children excited and involved with cooking.
  • Make the most of wider opportunities. Are there any local celebrities who will back your campaign? Why not ask local stores, leisure centres, libraries and hospitals to put flyers out, or put an ad on their notice board. You could even ask closely linked secondary schools to help your campaign.
